According to the media, Marilyn Monroe was a wonderful role model for girls in America. But did she really portray herself as a role model? Did she make mistakes that are relevant to teenagers today? Is she the “perfect” icon of female beauty that many of her contemporaries and fans believe she is?
Movies and Hollywood heroes seem to be remarkably similar. Most of us look up to them for ideas and inspiration. Whether they are the idealized versions of ourselves or not, we do tend to base our own ideas on what we see on the screen.
But in Marilyn Monroe’s case, it is often difficult to tell the difference between reality and fiction. Some of her roles have been unrealistic for teens today, but others were inspired by the role of the Hollywood star in the early 1950s. So, what is the proper age for watching movies like those?
Although some of Monroe’s movies were done when she was young, they were made a few decades before. Many of her fans will tell you that if she looked older than she was, it didn’t matter. Monroe was young and beautiful, so she must have looked that way. But is that true?
It may be debatable, but there is at least one example of Monroe being over 40 years old in her films. In On the Waterfront, she was over four decades old and was cast in a smaller role than her contemporaries. In The Seven Year Itch, she was a regular in a small role and was definitely considered an adult. These roles and others such as these are clearly set in a different era.
Movies like these usually feature the same stereotypes of good-looking men and the long legs of the good-looking woman. Monroe was not a good actress, but she certainly had the right attitude to play the leading role in most of these movies. And it certainly worked for her.
Marilyn Monroe’s fans also often love to point out that she is not a perfect role model for women. They do this because they want us to know that their idol is not perfect. When we watch movies like The Seven Year Itch, we can tell that Monroe’s character, Claire, is more ideal than most women in real life.
But was Monroe actually an actual woman, or a character from a movie? She was indeed a famous actress, but that does not mean that she was real. And the truth is that most of her movies were real, but the ways in which they were made were clearly not.
While many of the Hollywood actresses of her generation were big shot actresses, their careers were not built upon being perfect. Indeed, they were real people who became popular because of their talent. Monroe’s roles reflected her real personality and her real-life accomplishments, but it is not likely that those achievements could have had the same impact as they did in the film industry.
But while she may not have been perfect, many of her roles were great role models for many teenagers today. It is quite common for many of the younger actresses to show their mothers and grandmothers magazines like “Girls Gone Wild” and tell them what an awesome role model she was. But there is a bit of controversy regarding whether or not that was really true. It is true that Monroe had a reputation as a wild party girl, and it was quite possible that she was also one.
But many of her most famous movies, like Double Indemnity, were about her struggles with her career and her marriage. So it is true that many of the roles she played, and she was undoubtedly an excellent actress, did reflect her real life. Her real-life flaws, though, were clear, and anyone who has watched her movies will find them very amusing.
In real life, Monroe was no model for perfect women. She was a real person who had certain faults and quirks. But it is also true that she was a bit of a rebel with a unique sense of humor. Fun side, which is exactly what today’s teenagers seek in a role model.
